 Pentecost

The Day of Pentecost is a major festival of the church year celebrated this month on May 20th.  The fifty-day celebration of Easter, which began on April 1st, ends with this joyous festival.  The Day of Pentecost celebrates Christ’s sending of the Holy Spirit to His apostles in Jerusalem, where they would carry on His work and establish His Church on earth after He had ascended to His Father in heaven.

This amazing event in the life of the early Christian church is recorded in the second chapter of the Book of Acts (of the Apostles).  Christ also gave His Church on earth a beautiful example of how to live in fellowship with one another at the end of Acts 2, “42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.”  (Acts 2:42-47).

Take time this month to invite a family member, friend, or co-worker to worship with you.  Complete your “spring cleaning” if you haven’t already done so and donate needed items to Living Water Rescue Mission-York, Orphan Grain Train, or another local relief agency so others with a need can benefit.  Donate food to your local food pantry for those in your community who are not as fortunate.  But most importantly, like the apostles on Pentecost Day, share your faith in, and the love of Christ with, someone who hasn’t heard of Him!

            Pentecost Greetings,
